The Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in MLB action from PNC Park on Tuesday night.

The Chicago White Sox will try to rebound from an 8-2 loss at the hands of the Houston Astros in their last game. Jake Lamb had a two-run home run that accounted for both of the White Sox RBIs in the loss while Brian Goodwin added a double and Yasmani Grandal had a base hit as well as the White Sox mustered up just three hits as a team in the losing effort. The rest of the White Sox lineup went 0 for 19 with 7 strikeouts. Dallas Keuchel took the loss, falling to 6-3 on the year after allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking four and striking out three over 2.2 innings of work. Lucas Giolito will start here and is 5-5 with a 3.86 ERA and 103 strikeouts this season. In his career, Giolito is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will try to bounce back from a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Indians in their last matchup. Jacob Stallings accounted for the lone RBI for the Pirates while Bryan Reynolds added a double and Adam Frazier, Ke’Bryan Hayes, Colin Moran and Phillip Evans each had a base hit as the Pirates mustered up just six hits as a team in the losing effort. JT Brubaker took the loss on the mound after allowing both runs on three hits while striking out nine over 6.2 innings of work. Tyler Anderson will start here and is 3-7 with a 4.89 ERA and 65 strikeouts this season. This will be Anderson’s first career start against the White Sox.

Chicago is 7-1 in their last 8 games following an off day and 6-2 in their last 8 series-opening games while the under is 6-1-1 in their last 8 interleague road games. Pittsburgh is 16-35 in their last 51 games overall and 10-23 in their last 33 games against the AL Central while the under is 21-9 in their last 30 series-opening games. The under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

I wanted to give the Pirates the benefit of the doubt, but the bottom line is that this is still one of the worst offensive teams in the majors this season while Chicago was suffocated by the Astros and in all honesty, I expected better from the White Sox in that series. I think this is a game where the pitching shines and a game that comes in under the number.
