The Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics meet Saturday in MLB action from O.co Coliseum. This will be the second installment in a three-game series between these teams over the weekend. In the Friday opener, the Sox eked out a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Boston played the Royals this week, taking a four-game sweep with wins 6-5, 7-6, 6-2 and 15-1. In the Friday opener versus the A’s, the Red Sox posted a run in the tenth to scrape out a 3-2 win. Eduardo Rodriguez posted 6.0 innings with one hit, two walks and no earned.
For the starter job in the Saturday game, the Sox will send out Garrett Richards. Over his 81.2 innings this week, Richards has 99 hits, 50 runs (45 earned), 11 homers allowed, 39 walks, 67 Ks and a 4.96 ERA.

Over on the A’s side, they played the Rangers this week. Oakland lost two of three in that set. In the Friday game versus the Sox, the A’s put up four hits during the loss. Frankie Montas lasted 5.2 innings with five hits, three walks and two earned.

For the starter role in the Saturday game two, the A’s will send out Cole Irvin. This year over his 94.0 innings Irvin has 98 hits, 41 runs (38 earned), nine homers allowed, 17 walks, 68 strikeouts and a 3.64 ERA.

The Red Sox are 7-1 in the last eight Saturday games and 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series. Boston is 12-3 in their last 15 with a total of 7.0-8.5 and 18-6 in their last 24 on grass.

Meanwhile, the A’s are 8-2 in their last 10 in game two of a series and 73-35 in their last 108 versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The over is 7-3 in Oakland’s last 10 versus a right-handed starter and 9-4-1 in their last 14 Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Red Sox. Irvin is coming off no earned on three hits and two walks in 8.0 innings versus the Giants, but prior to that had given up seven earned on 16 hits in his previous 10.2 innings. As for Richards, he’s had some issues lately with 13 earned over his last three starts. That said, I think Boston will get an offensive lift and put Richards in position to get out of there with respectable numbers in this outing.
