The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins meet in MLB action from LoanDepot Park on Saturday.

The San Diego Padres will look to build on their 5-2 win over Miami from Friday. Tommy Pham had a solo home run while Manny Machado had a double and an RBI. Trent Grisham and Wil Myers each had an RBI while Jake Cronenworth had a triple and Joe Musgrove had a double. Eric Hosmer and Victor Caratini each had a base hit to finish off San Diego’s offense as a team in the win. Joe Musgrove got the win to improve to 6-7 on the year after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Mark Melancon closed the door in the 9th for his 30th save of the season. Ryan Weathers will start here and is 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. This will be Weathers’ first career start against Miami.

The Miami Marlins will look to bounce back from their loss at the hands of the Padres last time out. Adam Duvall had a solo home run while Jesus Aguilar added a double and an RBI to finish off the scoring for the Marlins in the defeat. Starling Marte had a pair of hits while Lewis Brinson added a double. Sandy Leon and Isan Diaz each had a base hit to finish off the offense for Miami in the losing effort. Zach Thompson took the loss, falling to 2-3 on the year after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Ross Detwiler will start here and is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. This will be Detwiler’s second career start against San Diego.

San Diego is 5-2 in their last 7 road games and 2-5 in their last 7 Saturday games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 game three matchups. Miami is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 7-19 in their last 26 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games. The under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Miami.

I give home dogs a look more often than not when I see them, but the Marlins are back to struggling offensively, and Ross Detwiler isn’t the kind of pitcher with the kind of stuff to offset Miami’s deficiencies at the plate. San Diego woke up on Friday and while Weathers isn’t usually a starter that goes deep into gaes, the Padres have more than enough to back him up here and I think the Marlins are just overmatched here. Give me the Padres here.
