The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Saturday.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to bounce back from a 6-5 loss at the hands of the Reds on Friday. Andrew Knizner had a double and two RBIs while Paul Goldschmidt had a solo home run and Harrison Bader had a solo home run and a double. Dylan Carlson had an RBI to cap off the scoring for St. Louis in the loss. Eduardo Sosa, Tommy Edman and Nolan Arenado added a base hit apiece to round out the Cardinals’ offense in the losing effort. Wade LeBlanc allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out five over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Geovanny Gallegos took the loss, falling to 5-3 on the year as a result. Jake Woodford will start here and is 2-1 with a 4.06 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. This will be Woodford’s first career start against Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds will try to build on Friday’s victory over the Cards from Friday. Joey Votto had a double and two RBIs while Kyle Farmer had a solo home run with both Votto and Farmer each logging three hits. Eugenio Suarez had a double and an RBI while Tyler Stephenson had two hits with an RBI. Jesse Winker had a double and Jonathan India had two hits while Aristides Aquino and Tyler Naquin each had a base hit to cap off Cincinnati’s offense as a team in the win. Tyler Mahle gave up two runs on five hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Brad Brach got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year while Heath Hembree closed the door for his 7th save of the season. Luis Castillo will start here and is 3-10 with a 4.39 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season. in his career, Castillo is 5-6 with a 4.61 ERA and 72 strikeouts against St. Louis.

St. Louis is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 9-4 in their last 13 Saturday games while the under in their last 5-2-1 in their last 8 game two matchups. Cincinnati is 12-3 in their last 15 games as a home favorite and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 games as a favorite. The over is 8-3-2 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings between the two teams in Cincinnati.

This is a steep price to lay with the Reds, but I’m concerned that we haven’t seen enough of Woodford to really invest in the Cardinals despite a nice run. Cincinnati got the job done on Friday and I think the Reds ride their ace who has suddenly found his form to another win in this one.
