The Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Wednesday in MLB action from PNC Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams this week. In the series opener on Tuesday, the Brewers managed a big shutout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Milwaukee played the White Sox over the weekend, winning Friday and Saturday before a Sunday defeat. In the Tuesday opener versus the Pirates, the Brewers notched 12 team hits in a 9-0 blowout win. Brett Anderson logged 6.0 innings with three hits and no earned.

For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Brewers will go with Adrian Houser. Across his 92.2 innings of work this year Houser has 88 hits, 46 runs (40 earned), 11 homers allowed, 42 walks, 74 Ks and a 3.88 ERA.

Over on the Pirates’ side, they played the Giants over the weekend and similarly won two of three games. In the Tuesday matchup, Pittsburgh coughed up eight runs in the first two innings and didn’t have much chance at recovering due to only four team hits.

For the starter duties on Wednesday, the Pirates are going to have to get creative and shuffle some things around after the Tuesday evening trade of Tyler Anderson (he went to the Mariners). Chad Kuhl is set to throw in the Thursday series finale.

The Brewers are 10-4 in their last 14 versus the NL Central and 21-6 in their last 27 with a total of 7.0-8.5. Milwaukee is 41-20 in their last 61 versus a team with a winning percentage below .400 and the under is 5-1-1 in their last seven Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 16-35 in their last 51 Wednesday games and 16-36 in their last 52 versus the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 8-18 in their last 26 at home versus a team with a winning record and the under is 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Brewers, assuming Houser can get through five innings or so. He’s given up four or more earned runs in three of his last six appearances, and hasn’t gone past 4.1 frames in any of his last three. That said, if Houser can find an early rhythm and keep the walks/hits to a minimum the Brewers should have a clear path to a potential victory.
