The Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels meet Thursday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. Oakland is coming off a pair of games versus the Padres. The A’s lost Tuesday by three runs, then in the Wednesday game Oakland bagged a six-run win. As for the Angels, they played the Rockies this week. LA split the first pair in that set, then in the Wednesday rubber match the Angels were able to eke out a win to take the series. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Oakland had a brief lead in the third inning on Tuesday, ultimately notching 11 team hits in a 7-4 defeat. In the Wednesday game, the A’s jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. Sean Manaea put up 6.0 frames with one hit, no earned and one walk.

For the starter job on Thursday, the A’s are sending out Frankie Montas. This year across his 112.0 innings of work Montas has 113 hits, 59 runs (54 earned), 16 homers allowed, 30 walks, 122 Ks and a 4.34 ERA.

Over on the Angels’ side, they posted a nice 6-2 win over the Rockies Monday but fell 12-3 in the Tuesday game two. On Wednesday in the rubber match, LA scored five in the fourth on the way to a dramatic 8-7 win. Andrew Heaney managed 6.0 innings with four hits, three earned, three walks and eight Ks.

For Thursday’s starting pitcher gig, the Angels were going to send out Alex Cobb, but he’s got a finger blister and will likely head to the IL. In his place will be Dylan Bundy out of the bullpen in a spot start.

The A’s are 16-7 in their last 23 with a total of 9.0-10.5 and 7-3 in their last 10 with a total at 6.5 or lower. The under is 5-1 in the A’s last six Thursday games and 7-3 in their last 10 road games.

Meanwhile, the Angels are 2-10 in their last 12 versus the AL West and 1-4 in the last five versus a team with a winning record. The over is 56-24-3 in the Angels’ last 83 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 versus the AL West.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the A’s. Montas has been doing pretty well lately, notching three earned runs or fewer in each of his last five starts. He’s also gone at least 5.0 innings in all of those, and 6.0 innings or more in each of his last three. If Montas can keep up the pace and notch a quality start in this one, Oakland should be in prime position for a W.
