The New York Mets and the Miami Marlins meet Monday in MLB action from Marlins Park. The Mets are coming off a weekend series against the Reds. After a split in the first two games, in the Sunday rubber match New York was blown out by six runs. As for the Marlins, they played the Yankees over the weekend. Miami lost the first two games in that set, then on Sunday the Marlins took another difficult loss. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York fell in a 6-2 loss to the Reds on Friday, but came back for a nice 5-4 victory in the Saturday game. On Sunday, the Mets could only find three hits in a tough 7-1 defeat. Marcus Stroman lasted 5.2 innings with eight hits, four earned and a walk.

For the starter job in the Monday game, the Mets will send out Tylor Megill. Across his 35.1 innings this year, Megill has 28 hits, eight earned runs, four homers, 11 walks, 39 Ks and a 2.04 ERA.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they had some trouble with the Yankees this weekend with losses 3-1 Friday and 4-2 Saturday. In the Sunday finale, Miami had a lead going into the eighth, but coughed up three crucial errors down the stretch in a rough 3-1 loss. Sandy Alcantara was good on 7.0 innings, two hits, one walk, 10 Ks and no earned, however.
For the starter gig in the Monday opener, the Marlins didn’t initially announce a name.

The Mets are 6-2 in their last eight in game one of a series and 2-5 in their last seven versus the NL East. New York is 1-4 in their last five on the road versus a team with a losing record and the over is 3-1-1 in their last five with a total of 7.0-8.5.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 6-18 in their last 24 in game one of a series and 3-7 in their last 10 home games. The over is 5-2-1 in Miami’s last eight versus the NL East and 14-6-3 in their last 23 Monday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Mets. Megill has done well over his last five starts, notching a total of three earned runs on 20 hits in that span. In his last three outings, Megill has just one earned on 14 hits in 17.1 frames of work. Miami is working around a depleted roster after trades and injuries right now, so it’s hard to imagine them doing much damage here if Megill is on.
