The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers meet Monday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be a one-off makeup game from a July postponement. The Twins are coming off a weekend series versus the Brewers. Minnesota won the first two games in that set, then on Sunday the Twins fell by four runs. As for the Tigers, they just played the Blue Jays. Detroit split the first pair in that series, then in the Sunday finale the Tigers fell in a tough one-run defeat. Minnesota posted a 2-0 shutout win over the Brewers on Friday, then bagged a 6-4 victory on Saturday. In the Sunday game, the Twins fell behind 6-0 at one point and never caught up in a 6-2 defeat. Starter Griffin Jax lasted 5.0 innings with six earned on six hits and three walks.

For the starter job in the Monday opener, the Twins will send out Bailey Ober. In his 68.2 innings this year Ober has 68 hits, 33 runs (31 earned), 14 homers allowed, 17 walks, 72 Ks and a 4.06 ERA.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they were able to eke out a 2-1 win versus the Blue Jays on Friday but fell in a tough 3-2 result Saturday. In the Sunday rubber match, Detroit posted eight hits but couldn’t do much on the scoreboard during a 2-1 defeat. Matthew Boyd put up 4.0 innings with four hits, two earned and two walks.

For the starting pitcher gig in the Monday game, the Tigers will send Casey Mize to the hill. Mize has 129.1 innings this year with 112 hits, 53 runs (51 earned), 22 homers allowed, 38 walks, 100 Ks and a 3.55 ERA.

The Twins are 4-1 in their last five versus the AL Central and 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. Minnesota is 4-9 in the last 13 versus a team with a losing record and the over is 5-2 in their last seven Monday games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 16-35 in their last 51 Monday games and 47-106 in their last 153 versus the AL Central. The over is 4-0 in the Tigers’ last four Monday games and 18-7-1 in the last 26 overall.

PICK: I’m sticking with the Twins. This should be a pretty good starting pitcher matchup, though. Mize has just two earned on seven hits and six walks over his last two games in a span of 10.0 innings. As for Ober, he’s got two earned over his last three starts, with 15 hits and two walks in 16.1 frames. I like both guys to pitch well here in an eventual Twins win.
