The Oakland A’s and the Detroit Tigers meet in MLB action from Comerica Park on Wednesday night.

The Oakland A’s will look to build on a 9-3 win over the Tigers from Tuesday night. Matt Chapman led the charge with a pair of home runs and three RBIs while Mark Canha had a two-run home run and Josh Harrison had three hits with a double and two RBIs. Matt Olson added a pair of hits with a double and an RBI and Yan Gomes had an RBI of his own to finish off Oakland’s scoring. Starling Marte had a pair of hits with a double and Elvis Andrus had a two-bagger of his own while Chad Pinder had a base knock of his own to finish off the offense for Oakland in the win. Cole Irvin gave up three runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings of work while Deolis Guerra got the win to improve to 3-1 on the year. James Kaprielian will start here and is 7-4 with a 3.65 ERA and 95 strikeouts this season.

The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound from their loss at the hands of Oakland on Wednesday. All of Detroit’s damage on the board came by way of home runs as Robbie Grossman, Dustin Garneau and Derek Hill each had a solo blast with Hill adding a double to the cause as well. Jonathan Schoop, Jeimer Candelario, Willi Castro and Erik Haase each had base hits as well to finish off the offense for the Tigers in defeat. Tarik Skubal took the loss, falling to 8-12 on the year after allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out six over five innings of work. Wily Peralta will start here and is 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season.

Oakland is 0-4 in their last 4 game two matchups and 35-16 in their last 51 Wednesday games while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite. Detroit is 13-4 in their last 17 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home underdog.

This is a steep price to pay for the A’s starting Kaprielian on the road, but the Tigers have fallen off a fair bit lately and the A’s are starting to pick their play to get back into the playoff race in the AL whether it be for the Wild Card or the division. The A’s are the veteran team that simply wins games when they have to and that’s the name of the game now that we’re in September. Give me the A’s on the road in this one.
