The Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox meet Monday in MLB action from Fenway Park. The Rays are coming off a weekend series versus the Twins. Tampa won the first two games in that set, then on Sunday the Rays fell by one run. As for the Red Sox, they played the Indians in their last set. Boston won the first two games, then in the finale Boston lost by six runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Tampa Bay posted a 5-3 win over the Twins on Friday in their opener, then took a nice 11-4 win in the Saturday game two. On Sunday, the Rays had a 5-4 lead late in the game but gave it away in a 6-5 loss. Luis Patino lasted just 2.2 frames with four earned on six hits and three walks.

For the starter gig in the Monday opener, Tampa Bay will send out Ryan Yarbrough. Over 134.0 innings this year Yarbrough has 134 hits, 75 runs (67 earned), 21 homers allowed, 23 walks, 104 Ks and a 4.50 ERA.

Over on the Boston side, they took care of the Indians 8-5 on Friday and 4-3 in the Saturday game two. On Sunday in the finale, the Sox fell behind quick 6-0 after three innings and dropped the game 11-5. Kutter Crawford had five earned on five hits and two walks in 2.0 innings.

For the starting pitcher slot in Monday’s game, Boston will send out Chris Sale. In 21.1 innings so far this year Sale has 19 hits, six earned runs, four homers allowed, five walks, 24 Ks and a 2.53 ERA.

The Rays are 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series and 17-5 in their last 22 road games. Tampa is 40-14 in their last 54 Monday games and the under is 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Sox are 7-1 in their last eight Monday games and 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series. Boston is 24-9 in their last 33 home games and the under is 5-2-1 in their last eight Monday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Rays. Sale has given up four earned on eight hits and four walks over his last two starts in a span of 11.1 innings. He’s also got 11 Ks in that stretch. As for Yarbrough, he’s got four earned on 10 hits and two walks in his last pair over 10.0 innings. This should be a nice starter matchup, and I expect both guys to do well in a tight game. I like Tampa a little better on the win, though.
