The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Angels Stadium on Monday night.

The Texas Rangers will look to build on their 7-3 win over the Angels from Sunday. DJ Peters led the way, going 4 for 5 with a pair of home runs, a double and four RBIs while Isiah Kiner-Falefa had three hits with an RBI and Jonah Heim had an rBI as well in the win. Adolis Garcia added a double while Yonny Hernandez had a pair of hits and Leody Taveras added a base hit as well to finish off Texas’ offense in the victory. Taylor Hearn got the win to improve to 5-4 on the year after allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four over seven innings of work. A.J. Alexy will start here and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to bounce back after their defeat at the hands of Texas last time out. Jo Adell had a pair of home runs to account for all three Angel RBIs in the loss while Jack Mayfield had a pair of hits with a double. Luis Rengifo had a pair of hits as well while Phil Gosselin added a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Halos as a team in the losing effort. Janson Junk ended up with the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing one run on six hits while striking out a pair over 3.2 innings of work. Jaime Barria will start here and is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season.

Texas is 17-35 in their last 52 game 4 matchups and 16-39 in their last 55 division games while the under is 41-1 in their last 6 road games against a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 14-6 in their last 20 games as a home favorite and 6-2 in their last 8 division games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 Monday games.

I get the case that could be made for the Angels as a home favorite, but the issue I have is that I’m not a Jaime Barria fan and like the Rangers or not, A.J. Alexy carried over his minor league success to the majors in his debut. I think that we can maybe get some value about Alexy being a relative unknown here, so give me the Texas Rangers to kick the series off with an upset.
