The Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees meet Monday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. The Twins are coming off a weekend series versus the Royals. Minnesota split the first two games in that set, then on Sunday the Twins fell by two runs. As for the Yankees, they just finished up against the Mets. New York also split their first pair, then on Sunday in the rubber match the Yankees took a tough loss. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Minnesota took a 6-4 loss to Kansas City in their series opener Friday, then bounced back for a 9-2 win on Saturday. In the Sunday finale, the Twins gave up two key runs in the final two innings in a 5-3 loss. Bailey Ober put up 4.1 frames with five hits and three earned runs.
For the starting pitcher gig in the Monday game the Twins will send out John Gant. In his 102.1 innings this year Gant has a 5-9 record with a 3.78 ERA in 36 games (18 starts) and 88 Ks.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they lost 10-3 to the Mets on Friday but came back for a tight 8-7 win in game two. On Sunday New York came back from a deficit but couldn’t keep it going during a 7-6 defeat. Clarke Schmidt put up 4.1 innings with two earned on seven hits and three walks.
For the starter job in the Monday matchup the Yankees will send out Luis Gil. This year Gil is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

The Twins are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 10-22 in their last 32 as a road underdog. The under is 5-1 in Minnesota’s last six in game one of a series and the over is 15-5-1 in their last 21 versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 41-18 in their last 59 versus the AL Central and 3-7 in their last 10 Monday games. The under is 10-2 in New York’s last 12 Monday games and 6-2 in their last eight versus a team with a losing record.
PICK: I’m going to try the Twins here. Gant gave up four earned on three hits and three walks in 4.0 innings at Fenway a couple of starts back, but he’s been better since then. In his last two starts, Gant has 10.0 combined innings with six hits, four walks and two earned runs. If he can post a nice start in this one I think Minnesota has a decent chance at a W if they can get their bats going.
