The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series this week. In the Monday opener, the Marlins secured a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Miami played the Braves over the weekend, winning Saturday but otherwise falling in the remaining pair. In the Monday game versus the Nats, the Marlins posted two runs in the ninth inning on the way to a 3-0 shutout. Miami had nine team hits in the win.

For the starter gig in the Tuesday game, the Marlins will send out Jesus Luzardo. In his 21 games (14 starts) this year, Luzardo has a 5-7 record, a 6.72 ERA and 79 Ks in 77.2 innings.

Over on the Nationals’ side, they played the Pirates this past weekend. Washington lost the first two before a Sunday win 6-2. In the Monday game, the Nationals could only find two hits in the shutout loss. Starter Paolo Espino lasted 6.0 innings with one earned on six hits and three walks.

For the starting pitcher slot on Tuesday, Washington will send out Erick Fedde. Over 117.0 innings this season Fedde has 125 hits, 76 runs (69 earned), 19 homers allowed, 44 walks, 112 Ks and a 5.31 ERA.

The Marlins are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and 22-49 in their last 71 Tuesday games. Miami is 14-42 in their last 57 road games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 1-6 in their last seven in game two of a series and 6-25 in their last 31 versus the NL East. Washington is 19-46 in their last 65 overall and the over is 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Marlins. Luzardo has been pretty decent over his last three starts, posting five earned on seven walks and eight hits across a total of 17.1 frames in that span. As for Fedde, he needs an encouraging start here. Fedde has given up 13 earned runs over 14.1 innings on 22 hits, five homers and two walks in his last three starts. I think he’ll do better in this one, but a potential Marlins cover makes sense.
