The San Diego Padres and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Saturday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series over the weekend. In the Friday game one, the Cardinals powered out a six-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego played the Giants this week, losing the first pair but coming back with two wins to take a 2-2 series split. In Friday’s opener versus the Cards, the Padres gave up four runs in the eighth during an 8-2 defeat. Vince Velasquez put up 4.0 innings with four earned on four hits.

Starting pitcher for the Padres on Saturday will be Yu Darvish. Over his 150.0 innings this year Darvish has 127 hits, 75 runs (72 earned), 27 homers allowed, 36 walks, 177 Ks and a 4.32 ERA.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they took care of the Mets in a sweep this week with wins 7-0, 7-6 and 11-4. In Friday’s game, St. Louis scored three in the first inning and never looked back. Starter Miles Mikolas lasted 5.2 innings with three hits and two walks.

For the starter gig in the Saturday game, the Cardinals will wheel out Adam Wainwright. In his 190.1 innings of work this season Wainwright has put up 150 hits, 63 runs (61 earned), 18 homers allowed, 46 walks, 167 Ks and a 2.88 ERA.

The Padres are 4-10 in their last 14 versus a team with a winning record and the over is 19-7-1 in their last 27 road games versus a team with a winning record. San Diego is 3-7 in their last 10 road games with a total of 9.0-10.5.

Meanwhile, St. Louis is 8-3 in their last 11 with a total of 9.0-10.5 and 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series. The over is 3-1-1 in the Cardinals’ last five Saturday games as well.

PICK: I’m sticking with the Cardinals. Wainwright is on a nice run lately, giving up more than two earned just once over his last eight games. He’s coming off 6.0 clean innings with four hits versus the Mets. As for Darvish, he needs a bounce-back start after eight earned on six hits, three walks and four homers in 4.0 innings against the Giants his last time up. I think Wainwright will win the starter battle here and help put the Cardinals in a winning position.
