The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels meet Thursday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. This will be the final installment in a four-game set. The Astros won the first two games of the series, then on Wednesday Houston kept it going with a victory in extras. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Houston didn’t have any problems with offense in the first two games of this set, winning 10-0 Monday and 10-5 on Tuesday. In the Wednesday game three, the Astros finally broke through in the 12th inning during a 9-5 win. Luis Garcia lasted 6.0 innings with no earned on three hits and three walks.

Starting pitcher for Thursday’s game will be Lance McCullers. Over his 150.1 innings this year McCullers has 117 hits, 54 runs (52 earned), 12 homers allowed, 71 walks, 176 Ks and a 3.11 ERA.

Over on the Angels’ side, they scored five runs on seven hits Tuesday but couldn’t catch up after falling behind 10-1 at one point. On Wednesday, Los Angeles posted five runs in the seventh inning during the loss. Janson Junk put up 4.0 innings with three earned, four hits and one walk.

For the starter gig in the Thursday game the Angels will send out Alex Cobb. Over 82.2 innings this year Cobb has 74 hits, 40 runs (33 earned), three homers allowed, 28 walks, 89 Ks and a 3.59 ERA.

Houston is 19-7 in their last 26 Thursday games and 39-17 in their last 56 versus the AL West. The over is 5-2-1 in Houston’s last eight Thursday games as well.

Meanwhile, the Angels are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 10-25 in their last 35 versus the AL West. The over is 4-0 in LA’s last four Thursday games and the under is 17-7-1 in their last 25 versus the AL West.

PICK: I’m going to try the Angels. Cobb has been on a nice run lately, putting up just three earned combined over his last five starts. In his last outing, Cobb went 5.0 innings with two hits, two walks and no earned versus the White Sox. As for McCullers, he’s given up just five earned combined in his last four starts. He’s coming off two earned on seven hits in 6.0 innings versus Arizona. This should be a great starter matchup to close out the series, and I think the Angels have a pretty good shot at a W.
