The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from RingCentral Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The Houston Astros come into this game looking to take one step closer to locking up the AL West. Yuli Gurriel leads the Astros with a .317 batting average, 161 hits and a .384 OBP while Yordan Alvarez leads the Astros with 32 home runs and 101 RBIs. Carlos Correa had a team-high 34 doubles this season while Kyle Tucker is the only Astro with three triples this season. Framber Valdez will start here and is 11-5 with a 3.07 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season.

The Oakland A’s will look to stay in the playoff race and pick up a big road win in Saturday’s affair. Matt Olson leads the A’s across the board with team-highs of 38 home runs, 105 RBIs and 145 hits with a .273 batting average and a .371 OBP. Olson also has a team-high 33 doubles while Mark Canha has a team-high 4 triples and Matt Chapman and Tony Kemp each have 3 triples this season. Chapman also has the dubious distinction of leading Oakland with 189 strikeouts this season. Sean Manaea will get the start here and is 10-10 with a 4.05 ERA and 180 strikeouts this season.

Houston is 5-1 in their last 6 road games and 40-18 in their last 58 division games while the over is 5-1-2 in their last 8 division games. Oakland is 1-7 in their last 8 games as an underdog and 3-8 in their last 11 game two matchups while the under is 7-1-1 in their last 9 home games against a team with a winning record.

This is a tough call with so much at stake for both teams, with Houston trying to clinch the division while the A’s are trying to keep their narrow wild card hopes alive. With that said, Sean Manaea has struggled mightily in the month of September, and I don’t see it getting any better against a Houston team that’s crushed left-handed pitching all year long. Framber Valdez isn’t one of my favorite Astro pitchers, but I think he’s the better option here with the Astros batting order behind him. Give me Houston here.
