The Oakland Athletics and the Seattle Mariners meet Monday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park. Oakland is coming off a weekend series versus the Astros. The A’s won the first two in that series, then on Sunday Oakland won in a walk-off. As for the Mariners, they played the Angels in their last series. Seattle split the first pair, then in the Sunday rubber match the Mariners put up a four-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Oakland managed a nice 14-2 blowout over Houston in the Friday game, then kept it going Saturday with a 2-1 win (and an unfortunate Elvis Andrus injury). On Sunday the A’s posted three unanswered runs late in a 4-3 walk-off win. Starter Paul Blackburn lasted 5.0 frames with one earned, three hits and one walk.

For the starter gig in the Monday game the A’s will send out Cole Irvin. This year Irvin is 10-14 with a 3.99 ERA and 117 strikeouts.

Over on the Mariners’ side, they notched a 6-5 win over the Angels on Friday but then fell in a 14-1 blowout in the Saturday game two. In the Sunday rubber match Seattle put up four runs in the eighth inning on the way to a nice 5-1 victory. Marco Gonzales lasted 7.0 frames with one earned on three walks and three hits.

For the starting pitcher job on Monday the Mariners are going with Chris Flexen. This season Flexen has a 13-6 record with 118 Ks and a 3.56 ERA.

The A’s are 6-14 in their last 20 versus a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last five Monday games. The under is 4-0 in the A’s last four Monday games as well.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series and 8-2 in their last 10 Monday games. Seattle is 35-17 in their last 52 at home after a road trip of a week or more as well.

PICK: I’m going to try Seattle. Irvin has done fairly well over his last three games, with six combined earned runs in 18.0 innings of work. As for Flexen, he’s got two nice outings behind him with two combined earned runs on nine hits and four walks in 12.2 innings. This one should be a pretty intriguing starter matchup, but ultimately I like the Mariners to bag a win.
