The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves meet Thursday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. Atlanta managed a one-run win in the Tuesday opener, then in game two the Braves kept it going with a five-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Philly posted a ninth-inning run on Tuesday but couldn’t complete the comeback in a rough 2-1 defeat. In the Wednesday game two, the Phillies had just five team hits in a 7-2 loss. Starter Aaron Nola lasted 6.0 frames with three earned on seven hits and two walks.

For the starter gig in the Thursday matchup Philly will send out Kyle Gibson. Over 30 games (29 starts) this year Gibson has a 10-8 record with a 3.60 ERA and 147 Ks in 177.2 innings.

Over on the Braves’ side, they posted just four hits in the Tuesday opener but it was enough for the win. On Wednesday, Atlanta notched four runs in the seventh inning to cap the big victory. Max Fried put up 7.0 innings with one earned on four hits in the start.

Starting pitcher for the Thursday finale will be the Braves’ Ian Anderson. In 122.1 innings Anderson has 102 hits, 49 earned runs, 15 homers, 50 walks, 122 Ks and a 3.60 ERA.

The Phillies are 8-2 in their last 10 in game three of a series and 14-4 in their last 18 versus the NL East. The over is also 4-1-1 in Philly’s last six Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-0 in their last five during game three of a series and 6-2 in their last eight Thursday games. The over is 6-1-1 in Atlanta’s last eight Thursday games as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Braves. Anderson had a sketchy outing versus the Giants a couple starts back, posting four earned on five hits, three homers and two walks versus the Giants. He came back with just one earned on two hits and a walk in 7.0 frames during his last start, though. As for Gibson, he’s given up 11 earned on 15 hits and three walks over a combined 17.2 innings over his last three appearances. I like Anderson to win the starter battle here and set Atlanta up for a W.
