The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Saturday in MLB action from PNC Park. This will be game three in a four-game set. Cincinnati took the opener on Thursday in a shutout. In the Friday game two, the Reds kept it going with a big victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cincinnati didn’t have a ton of trouble in the Thursday opener, notching nine hits on the way to a 4-0 shutout win. In the Friday game, the Reds posted three runs in the seventh on the way to an 8-2 win. Tyler Mahle finished with 6.0 innings, two earned, five hits and a walk.
For the starting pitcher job Saturday, Cincinnati will send out Luis Castillo. In his lone start this year Castillo as a 5.79 ERA without a decision. He pitched 4.2 innings with three earned on three hits and three walks.
Over on the Pittsburgh side, they couldn’t get anything going on four hits in the Thursday opener. On Friday, the Pirates had a 1-0 lead for a couple of innings but quickly fell behind. Mitch Keller lasted 4.2 frames with five earned on five hits and two walks.
Zach Thompson will take the mound for the start on Saturday for the Pirates. In his six games (five starts) so far this year, Thompson is 1-3 with a 7.08 ERA. In 20.1 innings he’s put up 26 hits, 16 earned, 10 walks and 19 strikeouts.

The Reds are 16-36 in their last 52 overall and 16-36 in their last 52 on grass. Cincinnati is 1-6 in their last seven Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 12-47 in their last 59 in game three of a series and 24-59 in their last 83 versus the NL Central. The over is 33-13-5 in Pitt’s last 51 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Pirates here. Thompson has had some bumps in the road over his first six appearances, but he’s been good in his last two outings. In that span Thompson has put up 6.0 innings with no earned on three hits and a walk. As for Castillo, we only have the one start to go by so far this year; there were some hits and misses in that one. All things considered I think the Pirates will have a decent shot at a W if Thompson can keep it going.
