The Chicago Cubs and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Sunday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the final installment in a three-game weekend series. The Diamondbacks eked out a victory in the Friday opener. In the Saturday matchup, Chicago evened it up with a win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Chicago posted three runs in the third inning Friday and had a brief lead in an eventual 4-3 loss. On Saturday, the Cubs scored three runs in the ninth inning (and had just four team hits) in a 4-2 victory. Starter Kyle Hendricks lasted 5.2 frames with one earned on five hits and two walks.

For the starter gig in the Sunday finale, Chicago is going with Justin Steele. Over six starts this year Steele is 1-4 with a 5.32 ERA. He’s got 22.0 innings total with 26 hits, 13 earned runs, 13 walks and 19 strikeouts.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they put up 12 team hits in the Friday victory. In game two Saturday, Arizona found some life late but ultimately couldn’t come back. Zac Gallen went 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on two hits and a walk.

Starting Sunday’s game three will be Arizona’s Humberto Castellanos. Across his seven games (five starts) this year, Castellanos is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA. Over 25.0 innings total he’s got 23 hits, 12 earned runs, seven walks and 16 Ks.

PICK: I’m likely going to try the Diamondbacks. I could probably go either way, though. This one seems to me like another tight affair similar to the Friday opener. Castellanos has had a few rough spots over his last two games, but the good news is that he’s given up three earned over 11.0 innings on eight hits and a walk in total. Castellanos should be able to put Arizona in a decent position here. Steele is going to be a wildcard, though; he’s on a bad stretch of outings right now but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him keeping the pace in this finale.
