The Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers meet Sunday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the final installment in a three-game weekend series. Detroit took a win in the Friday opener by two runs. On Saturday, the Tigers kept it going with a shutout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Baltimore scored a couple of runs in the eighth on Friday but it wasn’t enough in a 4-2 loss. In the Saturday game two, the O’s had four hits in a 3-0 defeat. Bruce Zimmerman managed to last 6.0 frames in the start with seven hits, one walk and two earned runs.
For the starter job in the Sunday finale Baltimore will send out Tyler Wells. Over his six starts so far Wells is 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA. In 24.0 innings total Wells has managed 10 earned, 23 hits, four walks and 17 Ks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they scored three of their four Friday runs in the sixth inning and had six team hits in the end. On Saturday, Detroit posted seven team hits and a pair of errors in the win. Six different pitchers combined for the shutout, including Wily Peralta’s 2.2 innings with two walks and a K.
Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers on Sunday. In six starts Skubal is 2-2 with a 2.94 ERA. In 33.2 total innings of work he’s put up 32 hits, 11 earned runs, six walks and 34 Ks total.
The O’s are 4-0 in their last four in game three of a series and 51-113 in their last 164 overall. Baltimore is 19-62 in their last 81 road games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 0-5 in their last five in game three of a series and 7-19 in their last 26 overall. Detroit is 19-42 in their last 61 Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to try the Tigers in the finale. Skubal has had some bumps in the road this year, but he’s been good over his last pair. In those two Skubal has a combined 13.0 innings with two earned on nine hits and three walks. Wells should post a solid line here also; he’s got just two earned in his last two starts over 11.0 innings and nine hits. I like a lower-scoring starter battle here initially with Detroit breaking through late. Should be a competitive game.
