The Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Phillies come into this game looking to complete the sweep after their 9-3 win over the Dodgers from Saturday. Bryce Harper leads the Phillies with 40 hits including 14 doubles, 9 home runs and 27 RBIs while Nick Castellanos has 36 hits with 9 doubles and 21 RBIs. Kyle Schwarber also has 9 home runs and 21 RBIs as well while Alec Bohm’s posting a .311 batting average so far this season. Aaron Nola will start here for the Phillies and is 1-4 with a 3.83 ERA and 47 strikeouts this season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to salvage a win in the series after Saturday’s loss. Freddie Freeman has a team-high 36 hits with a .303 batting average while Justin turner has a team-high 23 RBIs and 9 doubles. Trea Turner also has 34 hits with 8 doubles and 22 RBIs. Freeman also has 10 doubles to lead the Dodgers while Mookie Betts has a team-high 6 home runs. The Dodgers did not have a starting pitcher announced at the time that this article was posted.
Philadelphia is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Los Angeles is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.
I get the reasoning for backing the Phillies here with Nola on the mound as he’s supposed to be the staff ace. However, that hasn’t stopped the Phillies from losing his last 6 starts as a team and against this imposing Dodger batting order, it’s hard to envision that stopping even though the Phillies have been the better team here. I think this is simply a spot where the Dodgers kind of wake up out of their funk and find a way to get a win in this one.
