The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from PNC Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to rebound from a 3-1 loss to the Pirates on Saturday. Tommy Pham has a team-high 27 hits with a .239 batting average while Brandon Drury has a team-high 7 home runs and 22 RBIs with 8 doubles as well. Tyler Naquin has 10 doubles and Kyle Farmer has 9 doubles while Colin Moran has 21 RBIs as well this season. Hunter Greene will start here and is 1-5 with a 7.62 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to win and salvage a series split after getting on the board with Saturday’s win. Ke’Bryan Hayes has a team-high 34 hits and 9 doubles with a team-high .312 batting average as well while Daniel Vogelbach has a team-high 6 home runs and 13 RBIs. Ben Gamel also has a team-high 15 RBIs while Michael Chavis also has 13 RBIs and Bryan Reynolds has 4 home runs of his own on the year. Cincinnati is 17-36 in their last 53 games overall and 8-24 in their last 32 games as an underdog while the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 division games. Pittsburgh is 5-11 in their last 16 games overall and 24-60 in their last 84 division games while the over is 6-1-1 in their last 8 games as a favorite.
I get the case to be made for an underdog in a spot like this as I don’t really feel like laying juice with the Pirates at all really. However, the Reds, despite winning games here and there, are still one of the worst teams in the majors so far this year and Hunter Greene just hasn’t really been able to find his footing up to this point. I’m not a Jose Quintana fan either, but I think he can help put the Pirates in the best possible spot to get a win here.
