Chicago beat the Rangers back on Friday but lost the other two weekend games and the series. On Monday versus Detroit, the Sox posted 15 hits in a 9-5 victory. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn finished on 4.1 innings, three earned, 10 hits and four Ks.
Dylan Cease will make the start for the Sox on Tuesday. Over his 12 starts this year Cease is 4-3 with a 3.14 ERA. In 63.0 innings Cease has 51 hits, 22 earned, 33 walks and 89 Ks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they beat the Blue Jays on Saturday but lost the other two games in that set. On Monday, Detroit had 12 hits in the loss. Starter Rony Garcia posted 4.0 innings, four earned, five hits and two walks.
Drew Hutchison will take the mound for Detroit on Tuesday. In 10 games (zero starts) this year Hutchison is 0-3 with a 4.60 ERA.
PICK: I’m probably going to stay with the Sox here. The good news is that Cease hasn’t given up an earned run in any of his last three games over 16.1 innings. The bad news is that he’s still 0-1 in that time and hasn’t gone more than 4.2 innings in either of the last two starts. That said, Cease should be able to handle this Detroit lineup if he’s on and Chicago should be in position to get a win if he can make it through five innings or so.
