The Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins meet Thursday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Marlins eked out a win in the opener, then on Wednesday in game two Miami kept going with a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Colorado was up 4-0 at one point in the Tuesday game, but the team couldn’t hang on in a wild 9-8 loss. On Wednesday, the Rockies managed three runs in the top of the ninth but couldn’t bridge the gap in a 7-4 loss. Starter Chad Kuhl finished after 5.0 frames with four earned, six hits and two walks.
For the Thursday game, the Rockies are sending out Kyle Freeland in the start. Over his 13 starts this year Freeland is 3-5 with a 4.46 ERA. In 72.2 innings he has 36 earned, 79 hits, 23 walks and 48 Ks.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they scored five runs in the fourth inning alone during the win Tuesday. In the Wednesday matchup, Miami scored four in the third inning and had 11 team hits during the win. Pablo Lopez went 7.0 shutout frames with four hits and three walks.
Braxton Garrett will take the mound for the Marlins on Thursday. Across his three starts this season Garrett is 1-2 with a 4.85 ERA. Over 13.0 innings he has seven earned on 16 hits and four walks alongside 10 Ks.
The Rockies are 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series and 7-18 in their last 25 road games. Colorado is 2-6 in their last eight Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 8-19 in their last 27 versus the NL West. The over is 18-7-1 in Miami’s last 26 in game three of a series.
PICK: I’m probably going to try the Rockies in this one. Freeland is coming off an up-and-down performance in his last start, but he still got the win with 7.0 innings and four earned on eight hits and a walk. In his last trio, Freeland has a combined seven earned in 20.0 innings. As for Garrett, he’s given up seven earned in his last 13.0 innings. I like both starters to have decent outings in this one but it’s probably the Rockies’ win to take.
