The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres meet Thursday in MLB action from Petco Park. Philadelphia is coming off a quick two-game set versus the Rangers. After a loss on Tuesday, in the Wednesday game Philly fell again by two runs. As for San Diego, they played the Diamondbacks in their last series. The Padres won the first two games, then on Wednesday San Diego bagged a six-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Philadelphia had a rough game on Tuesday versus the Rangers, posting six hits in a 7-0 shutout defeat. In the Wednesday game, the Phillies posted five team hits in a 4-2 loss. Starter Zack Wheeler put up 4.1 innings with two earned on seven hits and three walks.

For the starter gig on Thursday, Philadelphia is sending out Ranger Suarez. Over 13 starts this year Suarez is 5-4 with a 4.43 ERA. In 65.0 innings he’s posted 32 earned on 69 hits and 29 walks with 54 Ks.

Over on the San Diego side, they managed a 4-1 win over Arizona on Monday and a 3-2 victory in game two. On Wednesday, the Padres offense went wild on 16 team hits in a 10-4 win. Mike Clevinger went 4.0 frames in the start with one earned on four hits and two walks.

Starting pitcher for the Padres Thursday will be Joe Musgrove. In his 12 starts this year Musgrove is 8-0 with a 1.59 ERA. In his 79.0 innings he has 14 earned, 56 hits, 17 walks and 81 Ks.

The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 15-4 in their last 19 overall. The over is 5-2 in Philly’s last seven Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 15-6 in their last 21 in game one of a series. The over is 5-2 in San Diego’s last seven versus a team with a winning record.

PICK: I’m staying with the Padres here. Musgrove is on a great run right now—and has been pretty much all season. In his last three games Musgrove has put up just two earned on 10 hits and six walks in 21.0 innings. He’s 3-0 in that time as well. San Diego should be set up very well once again in this opener, and I don’t think they’ll have too many issues carding a W.
