The Tigers are 2-5 in their last seven versus a team with a losing record and 16-43 in their last 59 Friday games. Detroit is 7-21 in their last 28 road games.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five after an off day and 11-27 in their last 38 Friday games. Arizona is 5-1 in the last six versus the AL Central.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Tigers here. I could probably go either way in this one, though; both teams need a good showing in this opener. Garcia hasn’t been awful in his last three games, with 15.0 innings, nine earned, 14 hits and three walks for a 1-1 record. He’s coming off 6.0 innings with three earned in a win over Texas. Another outing like that from Garcia and the Tigers should be in good shape.
