The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Tuesday in MLB action from Chase Field. San Diego played the Phillies in their last series and ended up losing three of four games. As for Arizona, they’re fresh off a set versus the Tigers. The Diamondbacks lost two of those three games. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Diego managed a 1-0 victory over the Phillies on Friday, but that’s the only victory they were able to get during the series. The Padres lost 6-2 Thursday, 4-2 Saturday and 8-5 in the Sunday finale otherwise.
Starter for the Padres on Tuesday in the opener will be Sean Manaea. In 13 starts this year Manaea is 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA. Over 79.0 innings he has 34 earned on 63 hits, 28 walks and 82 Ks.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they lost the first two games versus the Tigers in their last series: 5-1 Friday and 6-3 in the Saturday matchup. On Sunday Arizona was able to stave off the sweep with an 11-7 victory.
Zac Gallen will make the start for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Over his 13 starts this year Gallen is 4-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 71.0 innings of work he has 23 earned, 53 hits, 19 walks and 71 Ks.
The Padres are 6-0 in their last six after an off day and 7-2 in the last nine Tuesday games. San Diego is 7-3 in their last 10 road games.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 20-43 in their last 63 in game one of a series and 8-19 in their last 27 after an off day. Arizona is 36-89 in their last 125 versus a team with a winning record.
PICK: I’m going to stay with the Padres here. We should have a pretty interesting starter battle on our hands regardless. Manaea had a rough outing versus the Cubs back on June 14 with five earned in 4.0 innings. That said, he bounced back well in his most recent start with two earned in 6.0 frames. As for Gallen, he’s got just four earned over his last 13.0 innings. I like both guys to pitch well here in an eventual San Diego win.
