The Texas Rangers will try to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games after a 6-4 loss to Washington in Sunday’s series finale. Nate Lowe has 69 hits and a .279 batting average with 10 doubles while Adolis Garcia has 15 home runs and a team-high 47 RBIs. Corey Seager also has 62 hits, 15 homers and 32 RBIs and Brad Miller has 27 RBIs while Marcus Semien has 11 doubles and the aforementioned Garcia has 70 hits and 12 doubles as well on the year. Martin Perez will start here and is 5-2 with a 1.96 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season.
The Kansas City Royals will try to bounce back after a 5-3 loss to Oakland in Sunday’s rubber match last time out. Andrew Benintendi leads the Royals with 78 hits along with a .295 batting average and 25 RBIs while Salvador Perez has 11 home runs and 34 RBIs of his own. Perez has 13 doubles and Hunter Dozier has 13 doubles as well as a pair of triples and Bobby Witt Jr. has 16 doubles as well on the year. Witt Jr. also has a team-high 5 triples with 37 RBIs as well while Benintendi also has a pair of triples and Whit Merrifield has 30 RBIs as well this season. Kris Bubic will start here and is 1-4 with a 7.41 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season.
Texas is 48-102 in their last 150 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 Monday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Kansas City is 4-1 in their last 5 series-opening games and 22-47 in their last 69 Monday games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
I get the reasoning for looking at a home underdog in certain spots, but I’m not about backing a Kansas City team that’s clearly back on the downturn after a hot run last week and is starting a struggling starter in Kris Bubic here who is not a reliable option. The Rangers had a couple of sluggish performances against Washington, but they usually perform well with Perez on the hill, so I’ll back the Rangers in this one.
