The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs meet Wednesday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series this week. In the Tuesday opener, the Reds secured a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati played the Giants over the weekend and managed to win two of three games. On Tuesday versus the Cubs, the Reds posted 12 team hits on the way to a 5-3 victory. Lucas Castillo put up 6.0 shutout frames with five hits and three walks.

For the starter gig Wednesday, Cincinnati will send out Hunter Greene. In his 14 starts so far Greene is 3-8 with a 5.66 ERA. Over 70.0 innings he has 44 earned, 65 hits, 30 walks and 88 strikeouts.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they took a series win over the rival Cardinals with victories Friday and Sunday. In the Tuesday matchup versus the Reds, Chicago scored three runs in the seventh but couldn’t come back from the deficit. Starter Keegan Thompson put up 6.1 innings with four earned on eight hits and zero walks.

Justin Steele will take the mound for the Cubs on Wednesday. Across 14 starts so far Steele is 2-5 with a 4.59 ERA. Over 64.2 innings he has 33 earned, 29 walks, 65 hits and 61 strikeouts.

The Reds are 17-35 in their last 52 in game two of a series and 17-36 in their last 53 road games. Cincinnati is 5-16 in their last 21 Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 8-22 in their last 30 in game two of a series and 21-49 in their last 70 at home. The over is 19-9-1 in Chicago’s last 29 in game two of a series.

PICK: I’m probably going to stay with the Cubs here. Steele is going to need a bounce-back start, though. In his last outing, Steele put up five earned on seven hits in 5.2 innings versus Pittsburgh but his previous two starts were better. Steele managed three earned in a total of 12.0 innings there. As for Greene, he’s given up 10 earned over his last 10 innings. Chicago should have a few good shots at plating runs in game two.
