The Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers meet Sunday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the finale in a four-game weekend series. The Rays took the first two installments, then on Saturday the Tigers posted a blowout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Tampa Bay posted a 6-2 victory in the Thursday opener of this series, then bagged a 5-3 win on Friday. In the Saturday game, the Rays gave up five runs in the seventh inning during a 9-1 loss. Starter Shane McClanahan gave up four earned on six hits in 6.1 innings.
For the starter job in the Sunday game, the Rays are going with Drew Rasmussen. This year in 18 starts Rasmussen is 6-4 with a 3.06 ERA. In 88.1 innings he’s got 30 earned, 82 hits, 25 walks and 73 Ks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they were out-hit 12-6 in the Thursday game and had an early lead Friday before the defeat. On Saturday Detroit posted 12 team hits in the win. Garrett Hill bagged 5.2 innings in the start with one earned, six hits and three walks.
Starting pitcher for the Tigers on Sunday will be Matt Manning. Over his three starts this year Manning has a 3.46 ERA without a decision. In 13.0 innings total he has five earned on 11 hits and four walks with five Ks.
The Rays are 4-1 in their last five in game four of a series and the over is 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. The over is 2-0-2 in Tampa’s last four versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Tigers 17-35 in the last 52 versus a team with a winning record and 23-49 in their last 72 Sunday games. Detroit is 16-40 in their last 56 in game four of a series.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Tigers in this one. Manning doesn’t have a ton of action so far this year, but he’s done pretty well in his three outings. Manning had 8.0 innings with two earned in April, and he’s just coming off a road appearance versus Minnesota with five hits, four walks and three earned. If he can post a quality outing here I think Detroit has a decent shot.
