The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves meet Wednesday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. This will be the third installment in a four-game series this week. The Braves took a blowout win in the opener, then on Tuesday Atlanta kept it up with a shutout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York couldn’t find much success on seven team hits Monday, limping to a 13-1 blowout loss. In the Tuesday game, the Mets lost 5-0 with just three team hits. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker lasted 2.0 clean innings with two walks and one hit before exiting the game with back spasms.

Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Mets in the Wednesday matchup. In 16 starts this year Scherzer is 8-2 with a 1.93 ERA. Over 102.2 innings total he has 22 earned, 78 hits, 17 walks and 126 Ks.

Over on the Braves’ side, they scored eight runs in the sixth inning Monday along the way to 15 team hits. In Tuesday’s matchup. Atlanta managed eight hits in the win. Starter Charlie Morton put up 6.2 clean innings, three hits, one walk and 12 Ks.

Jake Odorizzi will make the start for the Braves in the Wednesday matchup. Over his 14 starts this year Odorizzi is 4-4 with a 3.80 ERA. In 68.2 innings he’s got 52 Ks overall.

The Mets are 5-0 in their last five Wednesday games and 22-5 in their last 27 in game three of a series. New York is 39-16 in their last 55 versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 50-24 in their last 74 at home and 48-19 in the last 67 overall. Atlanta is 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with the Braves. Odorizzi needs to go a little longer than he has in his last couple games, though. In his most recent pair, Odorizzi has 8.2 innings with four earned on 14 hits and four walks. He didn’t last 5.0 innings in either of those. As for Scherzer, he should do well here; he’s got 20.2 innings over his last three starts with just three earned on 19 hits and two walks. I like this matchup to be a lower-scoring affair initially, with some late-game heroics deciding the victor. Looks like a fun one to watch.
