Philadelphia posted 12 team hits in the Monday matchup, scoring three in the third on the way to a 4-3 win. On Tuesday, the Phillies scored three runs in both the fourth and ninth innings during an 11-4 victory. Starter Kyle Gibson put up 6.0 frames with three earned on six hits alongside 11 Ks.
For the Wednesday starter job the Phillies will send out Ranger Suarez. Over his 20 starts so far Suarez is 8-5 with a 3.52 ERA. In 107.1 innings total he has 42 earned, 103 hits, 39 walks and 89 Ks.
Over on the Reds’ side, they had an early 2-0 lead in the Monday game but lost it in the next inning. On Tuesday, Cincinnati had a brief lead but eventually gave up 18 hits in the loss. TJ Zeuch managed 4.0 innings, six earned, 11 hits and a walk in the start.
Nick Lodolo will take the mound for the Reds on Wednesday. Over his 10 starts so far Lodolo is 3-4 with a 4.72 ERA. In 47.2 innings total he has 25 earned, 55 hits, 24 walks and 64 Ks.
The Phillies are 14-4 in their last 18 overall and 13-5 in their last 18 in game three of a series. Philly is 43-20 in their last 63 on grass.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 7-2 in their last nine in game three of a series and 23-50 in their last 73 versus a team with a winning record. Cincinnati is 6-21 in their last 27 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m staying with the Phillies. Suarez has been on a solid run lately. In his last three starts he’s got a combined four earned on 13 hits and five walks over 18.1 innings of work. As for Lodolo, he’s given up seven earned on 11 hits and eight walks over his last 9.1 frames total. Lodolo may be able to flirt with a quality start here but it’s probably the Phillies’ game to take.
