The Houston Astros and the Baltimore Orioles meet in MLB action from Camden Yards on Thursday.
The Houston Astros come into this one looking to build on their 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays from Wednesday’s matchup. Alex Bregman has 135 hits with 36 doubles, 21 home runs and 88 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez has a team-high 37 home runs and 94 RBIs and Kyle Tucker has 29 home runs and 102 RBIs as well this season. Jeremy Pena also has a .249 batting average with 19 home runs and 53 RBIs of his own this season. Jose Altuve also has 146 hits with 33 doubles, 25 homers and 53 RBIs. Justin Verlander will start here and is 17-3 with a 1.78 ERA and 163 strikeouts this season.
The Baltimore Orioles will try to build on their 8-1 win over the Detroit Tigers last time out. Anthony Santander has a team-high 27 home runs and 79 RBIs. Austin Hays also has 122 hits with 32 doubles, 55 RBIs and a .249 batting average as well on the year. Cedric Mullins also has 145 hits with 30 doubles, 14 homers and 55 RBIs as well this season. Ryan Mountcastle also has 22 home runs and 80 RBIs as well this season. Kyle Bradish will start here and is 3-7 with a 5.05 ERA and 93 strikeouts this season.
Houston is 10-1 in their last 11 road games and 61-27 in their last 88 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Baltimore is 13-6 in their last 19 series-opening games and 16-5 in their last 21 games against the AL West while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 Thursday games.
I get the reasoning for backing either side in this one as Baltimore needs the wins but Houston’s showing no signs of letting up. That being said, I have to side with Houston here. The Orioles finally got one over on Detroit on Wednesday, but it almost feels like too little too late for Baltimore who have just run out of steam and are running into the wrong team at the wrong time in regards to helping their playoff hopes. I just don’t think that Bradish can match zeroes with Verlander the entire way and ultimately, Houston breaks through. Give me the Astros here.
