Baltimore played a couple versus the Nationals this week, losing 3-0 Tuesday before a 7-0 Wednesday victory. On Thursday versus Chicago, the O’s had 10 team hits in a 4-0 victory. Dean Kremer put up 5.2 shutout frames in the start with seven hits and a walk.
For the starter gig in the Friday matchup, Baltimore will send out Kyle Bradish. In his 10 starts this year Bradish is 1-4 with a 7.38 ERA. In 46.1 innings total he has 38 earned on 64 hits and 18 walks with 46 Ks.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they took out the Blue Jays 8-7 Monday and 7-6 Tuesday before a 9-5 loss Wednesday. In the opener versus Baltimore, Chicago couldn’t get much going on nine team hits. Starter Johnny Cueto left after 5.1 innings with three earned on seven hits and a walk.
Michael Kopech will take the mound for the Sox in the Friday game. In 12 starts this year Kopech is 2-3 with a 2.38 ERA. Over his 56.2 innings he has 15 earned on 31 hits and 25 walks with 55 Ks.
The O’s are 29-60 in their last 89 Friday games and 31-65 in their last 96 versus the AL Central. Baltimore is 27-72 in their last 99 road games.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 2-5 in their last seven Friday games and 13-4 in their last 17 in game two of a series. The over is 4-0 in Chicago’s last four Friday games.
PICK: I’m probably staying with Chicago here. Bradish has certainly had his ups and downs lately. In his last two starts combined Bradish has 11 earned on 20 hits and two walks in 8.2 frames. As for Kopech, he’s coming off something of a sketchy outing himself with four earned on seven hits and a walk over 5.0 innings during a loss to Houston. If Kopech can get back to form and post a quality start here, the Sox should be set up pretty well.
