The Kansas City Royals and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in MLB action from Chase Field on Tuesday night.
The Kansas City Royals will look to rebound from their 9-5 loss to the D-Backs from Monday’s series opener. Andrew Benintendi leads the Royals with 48 hits along with a .329 batting average and a team-high 18 RBIs while Salvador Perez has a team-high 6 home runs and 16 RBIs of his own. Perez has 8 doubles and Hunter Dozier has 8 doubles as well as a pair of triples and Bobby Witt Jr. has 9 doubles as well on the year. Witt Jr. and Benintendi each have a pair of triples as well on the year while Whit Merrifield has also contributed 17 RBIs this season. Jonathan Heasley will start here and is 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to build on another strong showing from Monday’s series opener. Daulton Varsho’s got 37 hits, 7 home runs and 20 RBIs this season. Christian Walker has a team-high 11 home runs and 20 RBIs and Ketel Marte has a team-high 14 doubles while David Peralta has 6 doubles and Pavin Smith’s also got 30 hits and has a .236 batting average on the year. Zac Gallen will start this one and is 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season.
Kansas City is 1-6 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and 6-20 in their last 26 games as an underdog while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the NL West. Arizona is 1-5 in their last 6 games against the AL Central and 58-119 in their last 177 games overall while the under is 7-0-1 in their last 8 games as a favorite.
I get the case to be made either way in this game, but I have to go with Arizona here. They have their ace on the mound in Zac Gallen and really came on strong offensively over the course of Monday’s opener. I respect the work that Heasley’s put in for the Royals so far, but he hasn’t had much run support so far and I just don’t see a spot for the Royals to sneak one past Gallen here. Give me the D-Backs in this one.
