The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Thursday in MLB action from Chase Field. The Dodgers are coming off a series versus Washington. LA won the first two games in that set, then on Wednesday the Dodgers took a close loss. As for Arizona they played the Royals this week, winning both games. The Dodgers didn’t have much trouble in the first two games versus Washington, taking wins 10-1 and 9-4. On Wednesday, LA had six hits in a tough 1-0 loss. Julio Urias put up 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on four hits and three walks.
For the starter gig in the Thursday matchup, the Dodgers will send out Mitch White. In six games (one start) so far, White is 1-0 with a 6.17 ERA. In 11.2 innings he’s got eight earned on 11 hits and four walks with 13 Ks.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they were able to take out the Royals in both games of their quick series this week. Monday was a 9-5 victory and Tuesday was another win 8-6. Arizona notched five runs in the sixth inning along the way.
Starter for the Thursday game one will be Arizona’s Humberto Castellanos. Across nine games (seven starts) this year Castellanos is 3-1 with a 4.29 ERA. Over 35.2 innings he’s got 33 hits, 17 earned, nine walks and 26 Ks.
The Dodgers are 41-16 in their last 57 in game one of a series and 76-30 in their last 106 overall. LA is 43-17 in the last 60 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 7-2 in their last nine Thursday games and 17-37 in their last 54 in game one of a series. Arizona is 44-107 in their last 151 as an underdog.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Arizona. Castellanos hasn’t been too bad over his last three starts. In that span he’s got eight earned on 14 hits and three walks in 16.0 innings, but only one victory. Still, Arizona has had some promising offensive success lately. If the Diamondbacks can keep the damage minimal on the other side I think they’ve got a solid shot in this one.
