Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants 9/24/22 MLB Picks, Predictions, Odds

San Francisco played the Rockies this week and did well with a four-game sweep. On Friday versus Arizona, the Giants posted a 6-5 win on 10 team hits. Starter Carlos Rodon put up 4.1 innings, four earned, four hits and three walks. 

For the starter job in the Saturday game the Giants will turn to Alex Cobb. Over 25 starts this year Cobb is 6-6 with a 3.48 ERA. In 134.2 innings he’s managed 52 earned on 131 hits and 40 walks with 136 Ks. 

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they managed two wins in five games versus the Dodgers this week. On Friday, Arizona scored three in the fifth but couldn’t overcome the gap. Tommy Henry went 4.2 frames in the start with five earned, six hits and three walks. 

Merrill Kelly will take the mound for the start on Saturday. Across his 30 starts so far Kelly is 12-7 with a 3.15 ERA. In 182.2 innings total he has 64 earned on 150 hits and 56 walks with 162 Ks. 

The Giants are 3-8 in their last 11 in game two of a series and 9-25 in their last 34 versus the NL West. The under is 10-1-2 in San Francisco’s last 13 in game two of a series. 

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 43-90 in the last 133 versus the NL West and 0-5 in their last five in game two of a series. 

PICK: I’m probably staying Giants here. Cobb hasn’t done too badly over his last three games. In that stretch he’s got five earned (three in one game) in 16.2 innings on 17 hits and six walks. As for Kelly, he’s had some ups and downs over the last trio with 12 earned in 18.0 innings on 16 hits and eight walks. If Kelly can put up a quality start this one should be close, but I like the Giants better win-wise.
