The Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Friday in MLB action from Chase Field. Seattle is coming off a series versus the Astros. The Mariners lost Monday but won the other two games in that set. As for the Diamondbacks, they played the Padres this week. Arizona won Wednesday but lost the other two games. Seattle fell to the Astros 4-3 in the Monday opener, but then bounced back for a 4-0 win Tuesday and a 1-0 win in the Wednesday finale. Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert logged 5.0 innings in the finale with no earned, no walks, four hits and four strikeouts.
For the starting pitcher gig in the Friday game, the Mariners will go with Tyler Anderson. Over 103.1 innings this year Anderson has 99 hits, 52 runs (50 earned), 16 homers allowed, 25 walks, 86 Ks and a 4.35 ERA.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they fell to the Padres 7-5 Monday and 3-0 Tuesday before a Wednesday victory 8-3. In the win, Arizona’s Luke Weaver lasted 6.0 innings with one earned, four hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Starting pitcher for the Diamondbacks on Friday will be Madison Bumgarner. This year over 117.1 innings Bumgarner has 107 hits, 63 runs (57 earned), 16 homers allowed, 30 walks, 101 Ks and a 4.37 ERA.
The Mariners are 7-2 in their last nine road games and 8-3 in their last 11 on Friday. Seattle is 18-39 in their last 67 versus the NL West and 1-4 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 7-3 in their last 10 home games and 10-21 in their last 31 in game one of a series. Arizona is 30-77 in their last 107 overall and 3-9 in their last 12 after an off day.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Diamondbacks. That’s somewhat contingent on Bumgarner having a bounce-back outing, though. Over his last pair, Bumgarner has been sketchy with 11.0 innings, 13 hits, two homers, seven walks and nine earned runs. Prior to that however, Bumgarner had a solid run going with two or fewer earned runs in seven straight starts. Provided he can notch a quality start in this one, I think Arizona has a decent chance at a W.
