The Diamondbacks managed a 7-0 shutout win over the New York Yankees this week, but otherwise lost 5-2 and 6-5 in the other two games. On Friday versus Atlanta, Arizona had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the eighth but eventually fell 6-5 in 10 innings. Eugenio Suarez led the offense with two hits, two RBI and a run. Lourdes Gurriel added two hits, one RBI and one run.

In the starting pitcher role for the Diamondbacks on Saturday it’ll be Brandon Pfaadt. In his first start of the year against Colorado, Pfaadt put up 5.0 innings with one earned in a victory. Pfaadt is 4-9 in his career with a 5.52 ERA in 20 games (19 starts).

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

Over on the Braves’ side, they split a pair with the Chicago White Sox this week. Atlanta won 9-0 Monday and fell 3-2 Tuesday. In the Friday matchup the Braves capped their comeback with four runs over the final three frames. Matt Olson finished with two runs, two hits, two RBI and a homer, while starter Spencer Strider struggled with five earned in 4.0 innings.

Atlanta will send out Max Fried for the starting pitcher role on Saturday. Fried had a rough start against the Phillies to kick off the year, lasting just 0.2 frames with three earned runs. In his career Fried is 62-26 with a 3.06 ERA in 140 games (126 starts).

Diamondbacks vs Braves Prediction

I’ll probably take a stab on the Diamondbacks here. Pfaadt is coming off a pretty solid outing versus Colorado, going 5.0 innings with one earned, five hits, no walks and six Ks in a win. As for Fried, he certainly needs a good bounce-back effort here, and I think he’ll get it.

On Friday Arizona had the Braves on the ropes late in the game but couldn’t hold on. Miguel Castro and Kevin Ginkel each gave up an earned run on a combined four hits in 1.2 innings. Otherwise the pitching effort was pretty solid, but the loss still stings. Arizona is going to need a better all-around effort in the Saturday matchup, but they might be worth a shot as a value play.
