Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Game 1 MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 6/21/2021

The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets meet Monday in MLB action from Citi Field. This will be game one of a doubleheader Monday and a four-game set this week. The Braves are coming off a series versus the Cardinals. After winning the first pair, in the Sunday doubleheader Atlanta lost game one by eight runs. In the nightcap, the Braves eked out a one-run win. As for the Mets, they played the Nationals over the weekend. New York managed just one win in the first three games, then in the finale the Mets lost by three runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Atlanta managed wins over the Cardinals 4-0 Thursday and 9-1 in the Friday game. On Sunday in the doubleheader, the Braves lost 9-1 in the opener. In game two, Atlanta scored once in the third and hung on for a 1-0 win. The Braves held St. Louis to just two hits in that one.

For the Monday game one starter role the Braves are sending out Ian Anderson. Over his 70.1 innings this year Anderson has 59 hits, 28 earned runs, six homers allowed, 27 walks, 74 Ks and a 3.58 ERA.

Over on the Mets’ side, they fell in three straight to the Nationals 1-0 Friday then 5-1 and 6-2 in the Saturday doubleheader. On Sunday, New York could only muster four hits in a 5-2 defeat. Taijuan Walker lasted 6.1 innings with 10 hits and four earned runs.

For the starter job on Monday in game one, the Mets are likely going with Jacob deGrom. This year in his 67.0 innings deGrom has 26 hits, seven runs (four earned), three homers allowed, eight walks, 111 Ks and a 0.54 ERA.

The Braves are 4-1 in their last five opening games of a doubleheader and 1-4 in their last five versus the NL East. Atlanta is 1-4 in their last five road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5 and the under is 4-1-1 in their last six Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 37-15 in their last 52 home games versus a team with a losing record and 4-1 in their last five in the opening game of a doubleheader. New York is 17-8 in their last 25 versus a team with a losing record and 25-12 in their last 37 on grass.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Mets, provided deGrom is at full strength. He left his last start after three perfect innings due to shoulder discomfort but his MRI came back clean. It’s been a while since deGrom has allowed an earned run; he’s got just six hits and a walk with 37 Ks over his last four starts, a span of 22.0 innings. It’ll be hard for Atlanta to score if he’s on.
