Toronto played the Red Sox over the weekend, taking a three-game sweep. On Monday versus Baltimore, the Jays scored three in the first three innings on the way to a 5-1 win. Starter Jose Berrios put up 6.0 innings with one earned on three hits and three walks.
Starter for the Jays on Tuesday will be Mitch White. In 24 games (18 starts) this year White is 1-6 with a 5.21 ERA. In 95.0 innings he has 74 strikeouts.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they managed two wins in three games versus the Yankees over the weekend. On Monday Baltimore was out-hit 10-3 in the defeat. Dean Kremer managed 6.0 innings in the start with three earned on six hits and a walk.
Mike Baumann will take the reins for the start on Tuesday. Across his 12 games (three starts) Baumann is 1-3 with a 4.34 ERA. In 29.0 innings he has 14 earned on 34 hits and eight walks with 19 Ks.
The Jays are 17-6 in their last 23 road games and 20-8 in their last 28 on grass. The over is 5-2 in Toronto’s last seven Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 9-3 in their last 12 Tuesday games and 105-215 in their last 320 versus the AL East. Baltimore is 1-4 in the last five in game two of a series.
PICK: I’m staying with the Blue Jays. White has been a little shaky lately however, so he’ll need a good showing here. Over his last two appearances, White has six earned in 7.2 innings on 10 hits and four walks. As for Baumann, he’s got four earned in 8.0 innings over his last two outings. So long as White can at least flirt with a quality start, Toronto’s offense should be able to do the rest.
