Baltimore scored runs in all but two innings in the Monday opener, surging to a 14-8 win. In the Tuesday game the O’s gave up 11 runs in a two-inning span in a 13-9 loss. Kyle Bradish put up 2.1 innings in the start with seven earned, four hits and four walks.
Starter for Wednesday’s matchup will be Dean Kremer. Over 20 games (19 starts) so far Kremer is 8-5 with a 3.07 ERA. In 114.1 innings he has 39 earned on 29 walks and 111 hits with 81 Ks.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they gave up 14 hits (to 15 of their own) in the Monday loss. On Tuesday in game two, Boston had 11 hits to Baltimore’s 15 in the victory. Starter Michael Wacha went 3.1 innings with eight hits and six earned.
Rich Hill will make the start for the Sox on Wednesday. Over his 24 starts so far Hill is 7-7 with a 4.65 ERA. In 112.1 innings total he has 58 earned on 116 hits and 35 walks with 94 Ks.
The Orioles are 23-52 in their last 75 Wednesday games and 24-11 in their last 35 versus a team with a losing record. The under is 5-1 in Baltimore’s last six Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 15-36 in the last 51 versus a team with a winning record and 15-38 in their last 53 versus the AL East. Boston is 2-9 in the last 11 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m going with Baltimore. Kremer is on a nice run these days. He’s coming off a complete-game shutout of the Astros with four hits and two walks. Over his last three games total Kremer has five earned over 19.2 innings on 16 hits and eight walks. As for Hill, he hasn’t been great with six earned over 9.2 innings in his last two starts. I like Hill to take a step forward with a decent outing here but the O’s should have the advantage.
