Boston Red Sox vs New York Mets MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 9/22/2021

The New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox meet in MLB action from Fenway Park on Wednesday.

The New York Mets will look to rebound from a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Red Sox on Tuesday night. Pete Alonso had a solo home run while J.D. Davis and Michael Conforto each had RBIs as well to round out the scoring for the Mets in the loss. Francisco Lindor had a double while Brandon Nimmo, Javier Baez, Kevin Pillar, Jamed McCann and Tomas Nido all had base hits to finish off the Mets’ offense as a team in the losing effort. Marcus Stroman took the loss, falling to 9-13 after allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Taijuan Walker will start here and is 7-10 with a 4.27 ERA and 140 strikeouts this season.

The Boston Red Sox will try to build off of their big win over the Mets from Tuesday. Xander Bogaerts led the way with a two-run home run as part of his four RBI day while Enrique Hernandez had a solo home run and Christian Vazquez added an RBI with a double to finish off the scoring for Boston in the win. Bobby Dalbec had two hits with a double and Jose Iglesias and Kyle Schwarber each had a double as well to cap off Boston’s offense in the victory. Eduardo Rodriguez allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Ryan Brasier got the win in relief to improve to 1-1 this season. Chris Sale will start here and is 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season.

New York is 7-3 in their last 10 interleague games and 6-13 in their last 19 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 road games against a left-handed starter. Boston is 4-1 in their last 5 game two matchups and 71-32 games against the NL East while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record.

I get that both teams need the win badly to stay in the playoff race, but the Red Sox are the more likely of the two to still fight for a spot in the coming days while the Mets faded away a while ago, and a struggling pitcher like Taijuan Walker isn’t the guy I’d want to rely on to get a win here, especially with Chris Sale on the other side. I think the Red Sox are the play here, but the price is steep so it may be a parlay play here.
