The Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from American Family Field on Tuesday night.
The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back from a 14-4 loss at the hands of the Brewers on Monday. Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom each had a two-run home run to make up the scoring for the Cubs in the loss while Eric Sogard added a double and Kyle Hendricks chipped in a base hit as well to finish off Chicago’s offense as a team in the loss as the Cubs had just five hits as a team in the loss. Hendricks allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out four over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Ryan Tepera took the loss in relief, falling to 0-2 on the year as a result. Zach Davies will start here and is 5-4 with a 4.31 ERA and 49 strikeouts this season. This will be Davies’ first career start against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to build on their beatdown of the Cubs on Monday. Keston Hiura led the way, going 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs while Avisail Garcia and Willy Adames each had a multi-hit game with three RBIs and a home run. Tyrone Taylor, Jackie Bradley Jr., Jace Peterson and Luis Urias each had an RBI to round out the scoring in the win for the Brewers with JBJ, Peterson and Urias each putting up a double. Christian Yelich added a double as well to finish off the offense for Milwaukee in the win. Freddy Peralta gave up two runs on two hits while striking out eight over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Devin Williams got the win in relief to improve to 5-1 on the year. Brandon Woodruff will start here and is 6-3 with a 1.89 ERA and 111 strikeouts this season. In his career, Woodruff is 1-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 62 strikeouts against the Cubs.
Chicago is 2-6 in their last 8 games as a road underdog and 4-9 in their last 13 games overall while the under is 14-3-1 in their last 18 games as an underdog. Milwaukee is 10-3 in their last 13 home games and 21-8 in their last 29 games overall while the under is 27-10-2 in their last 39 games against a team with a winning record. The under is 48-18-2 in the last 68 meetings between these two teams.
This is a tough one as both pitchers have pitched really well lately. However, Zach Davies has the unfortunate circumstance of a Cubs team behind him that’s really struggled at the dish over the last couple of weeks. Milwaukee’s had issues of their own, but the Brewers are hitting the ball better right now and Woodruff’s been lights out for much of the year. I’ll back the Brewers on the run line to get the price tag down in this one.
