The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs meet Monday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Chicago Cubs vs San Diego Padres Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The San Diego Padres will send out Yu Darvish here and Darvish is 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. In his last five career starts against the Cubs, Darvish is 2-2 with a 2.76 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Justin Steele will get the call for the Cubs here and is 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season.

San Diego Padres Recap

The San Diego Padres come into this game hoping to bounce back from an 11-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Sunday. The loss prevents the sweep for San Diego, but still gives the Padres back-to-back series victories after knocking off the Reds to start the week. San Diego fought back from a 4-0 deficit and 6-3 deficit, but all 11 runs for the D-Backs were given up by the 5th inning and the Padres couldn’t recover.

Padres Still Hitting Well Despite Stumble

Jurickson Profar leads the Padres with 42 hits along with a .344 batting average and 8 doubles with 5 homers and 23 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has a team-high 25 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted a team-high 7 home runs this season. Manny Machado has 5 home runs and 21 RBIs but also has 31 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 27 hits with 2 triples, 4 doubles, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and a team-high 7 stolen bases.

Why the San Diego Padres will win

Chicago Cubs Recap

The Chicago Cubs come into this series fresh off of their series win over the Brewers thanks to a 5-0 win in Sunday’s series finale. The series win for the Cubs builds on their split with the Mets to start the week as The Cubs struck with a three-run 5th inning and never looked back as Chicago rode the pen to the finish line, outhitting the Brewers 7-5 in the win.

Hoerner Leading Cubbies Offense

Nico Hoerner leads the Cubs with 37 hits, 10 doubles and a .282 batting average while Christopher Morel has a team-high 7 home runs and 21 RBIs. Michael Busch has 6 homers with 18 RBIs but also has the unfortunate distinction of leading the Cubs with 42 strikeouts as well this season.

Why the Chicago Cubs will win

Chicago Cubs vs San Diego Padres Prediction

I’m on the Cubs here. The Padres have been solid for the most part as of late, but one area where this team has struggled a fair bit is hitting against left-handed pitching. When healthy, Justin Steele is one of the best pitchers in the National League, and has all of the stuff to shut down a Padres’ lineup that’s been inconsistent at best more often than not this season. I think the Cubs have some momentum after their series win over Milwaukee, and I think the Cubs start this set with a win. Give me Chicago here.
