The Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs meet Sunday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. Here’s a Chicago Cubs vs Washington Nationals prediction. This will be the final installment in a four-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Cubs vs Nationals pick.
Washington Nationals Betting Preview
The Nationals played the New York Mets in their last set. That one didn’t go very well, as Washington took a three-game sweep. After losses 7-6 and 3-1 to the Cubs, in Saturday’s game the Nats bagged a 5-1 win. Starter MacKenzie Gore lasted 7.0 innings with one earned run.
In the starter slot for the Nationals on Sunday will be Jake Irvin. This year Irvin is 10-12 with a 4.07 ERA in 31 starts. In 55 career starts Irvin is 13-19 with a 4.29 ERA.
Chicago Cubs Betting Preview
Over on the Cubs’ side, they played the Oakland Athletics this past week. Chicago won Monday 9-2 then lost the other pair in that set. On Saturday the Cubs were out-hit 12-2 in a rough outing. Kyle Hendricks gave up four earned in 5.1 innings as a starter.
It’ll be Shota Imanaga in the starter slot for the Cubs on Sunday. This year Imanaga is 14-3 with a 3.03 ERA in the first 28 starts of his career.

Chicago Cubs vs Washington Nationals Prediction
I’ll lean toward the Cubs. Imanaga is 3-0 over his last three starts, giving up five earned in a total of 20.0 combined innings on 12 hits and five walks. As for Irvin, he’s 1-0 in his last pair with two earned in 13.1 total innings. We should have a good starter matchup if both guys are on.
On Saturday the Cubs couldn’t get anything going until the seventh inning, and by then they were down 4-1. Chicago’s only scoreboard visit came in the form of a Patrick Wisdom solo homer; everything else was pretty bad all around. I do like the Cubs to bounce back Sunday in the finale, though.
