Detroit posted three runs in the first two innings on Friday in the opener and eventually posted a 5-3 win. On Saturday, the Tigers scored four runs in the seventh in a 7-2 victory. Drew Hutchison put up 5.0 innings in the start with two earned on four hits and two walks.
For the starter role in the Sunday game the Tigers will send out Tyler Alexander. In 24 games (14 starts) this year Alexander is 4-10 with a 4.91 ERA. In 84.1 innings he’s got 46 earned on 92 hits and 19 walks with 45 Ks.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they were out-hit 9-8 in the Friday opener and didn’t show much life until late. On Saturday, Chicago was out-hit 14-5 in the loss. Starter Davis Martin put up 6.0 frames, three earned, seven hits and one walk.
Dylan Cease will take the mound for the Sunday start. In his 30 starts this year Cease is 14-7 with a 2.13 ERA. In 173.0 innings total he’s managed 41 earned on 117 hits and 71 walks with 217 Ks.
The Tigers are 22-45 in their last 67 overall and 25-54 in their last 79 Sunday games. Detroit is 14-37 in their last 51 versus a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 9-3 in their last 12 Sunday games and the under is 11-4-3 in their last 18 in game three of a series.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Detroit. Alexander needs to have another good outing, though. In his last start, Alexander put up 7.0 clean frames against Baltimore with two hits and two walks. That said, Alexander also had 10 earned over his previous 10.1 innings on 16 hits and a walk. As for Cease, he’s been pretty solid lately with four earned in his last 17.0 innings. This should be a pretty fun matchup if both pitchers are on point.
