The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox meet in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will try to bounce back from a 4-2 loss at the hands of the White Sox on Tuesday. Colin Moran had an RBI while Ben Gamel, Wilmer Difo, Dryan Reynolds and Kevin Newman each had base hits as well as Pittsburgh cranked out just five hits as a team in the loss with none of the five hits going for extra bases in the loss. Bryse Wilson took the loss, falling to 2-6 on the year after allowing four runs on six hits over five innings of work. Mitch Keller will start here and is 4-10 with a 6.75 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season.
The Chicago White Sox will try to build off of their win over the Pirates from Tuesday night. Yasmani Grandal and Jose Abreu each had a solo home run while Leury Garcia had a double with an RBI and Brian Goodwin added an RBI of his own to cap off the scoring for the White Sox in the win. Yoan Moncada added a double as well while Eloy Jimenez pitched in a base hit as the White Sox mustered up six hits as a team in the win. Lucas Giolito allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Michael Kopech got the win in relief to improve to 4-2 on the year while Liam Hendriks closed the 9th for his 30th save of the season. Carlos Rodon will start here and is 10-5 with a 2.43 ERA and 163 strikeouts this season.
Pittsburgh is 7-17 in their last 24 games overall and 11-24 in their last 35 games against the AL Central while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 Wednesday games. Chicago is 6-1 in their last 7 interleague games and 6-1 in their last 7 games against the NL Central while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 interleague home games.
I get the case that could be made for both sides, as Keller has pitched better, but the White Sox and Rodon can be a different animal. Instead, I’m going to side with the under. Like I said, Keller has occasionally stepped up his game here and there and honestly, Carlos Rodon is not a pitcher I’m looking to step in front of right now. I think this could end up being a lower-scoring game because of the pitching or simply because the offenses don’t show up, but either way I love the under here.
