Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians took a couple of tough losses to the Rays in the first two games of their weekend series, losing 9-8 Friday and 6-5 in game two. Cleveland was able to hold off the sweep with a 9-2 victory in the finale, however. Both Andres Giminez (two RBI; four hits; two runs) and Gabriel Arias (two RBI) had home runs in the victory.

It’ll be Logan Allen in the starting role for the Guardians on Tuesday. Over his 17 starts so far Allen is 5-5 with a 3.55 ERA and 88 Ks in 91.1 innings. Allen has gone 2-3 with a 2.95 ERA over his last seven starts with 12 earned in 36.2 innings total.

Over on the Reds’ side, they were able to beat the Pirates 9-2 Friday but ended up losing 4-2 in the first game of the Sunday doubleheader. In the starter role Tuesday it’ll be Cincinnati’s Graham Ashcraft. In his 22 starts this year Ashcraft is 6-7 with a 4.95 ERA and 88 Ks in 120.0 innings. Ashcraft has gone 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA over his last seven starts, striking out 29 in 44.1 frames.

I’ll probably stay with the Guardians here. This should be a pretty fun starter matchup, though. Allen finished off July with a rough start versus the White Sox (five earned in 6.0 innings) but he’s been better over his last pair of starts. In those two Allen is 1-1 with 11.0 innings and three earned runs. As for Ashcraft, he’s pitching well these days with four earned runs in 21.0 innings over his last three starts. Cleveland scored well in the Rays series with 22 runs in three games, and I think the offense will keep moving in this opener as well.
